February Vacation Fun

WOODSTOCK, VERMONT... Billings Farm & Museum, gateway to Vermont's rural heritage, will offer its annual February school vacation week programs that will feature a hands-on experience of the farm during winter.

A Day at the Farm, designed for children ages 8 to 12, is set for Tuesday, February 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Children will help feed the Jersey herd, visit the calf nursery and sheep barn, bake cookies in the farmhouse wood stove, churn butter, sled with jack jumpers, and climb aboard the horse-drawn sleigh for a ride around the farm fields. Program Fee: $35/Farm & Museum members; $40/non-members.

NEW! Farm Vet for a Day, designed for children ages 10 to 15, is set for Wednesday, February 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wear your mud boots and come prepared to get dirty while working along side a large animal veterinarian. Learn the anatomy and physiology of ruminant (cows and sheep) and non-ruminant (horses) animals. Participate in grooming and feeding, and a physical exam of one of the farm animals. Program Fee: $65/Farm & Museum members; $75/non-members.

Winter Warmth on the Farm, will be offered Thursday, February 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., is designed for children ages 6 to 8. Children can visit the livestock barns to learn how farm animals adapt to winter conditions, bake cookies in the farmhouse wood stove, dip candles to take home, listen to stories by the fire, and enjoy a sleigh ride. Program Fee: $25 for Farm & Museum members; $30/non-members.

All programs require warm, comfortable clothing for indoor and outdoor activities, a bag lunch (milk is provided), and an appetite for farm work–and fun!
