Get to Know Cows at the Billings Farm & Museum
Billings Farm & Museum, gateway to Vermont's rural heritage, will host its 24th Annual Cow Appreciation Day on Saturday, July 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Learn about Jersey cows during lively educational programs, the "Cowlege Bowl" competition for families, as well as butter and ice cream making. Admission to the event includes all programs and activities, plus the working dairy farm, farm life exhibits, and the restored and furnished 1890 Farm House.
"Judge Jerseys" with the farm manager and select the best Jersey in the herd. Featured programs include: Up Close With a Jersey Cow, What Happens to the Milk, Making a Cow Pizza, An Introduction to Milking, and a Farm House Tour from a Cow's Perspective. Visit the calf nursery and help name one of the farm's newborn Jersey calves. The afternoon milking of the herd begins at 3:30 p.m.
Join the Cowlege Bowl — a spirited competition for all ages featuring questions about dairy cows and dairy farming, with prizes for the winning team! Sample Vermont dairy products throughout the day, including freshly churned butter and hand-cranked ice cream.
