6th Annual Traditional Craft Saturdays at Billings Farm & Museum

Billings Farm & Museum, gateway to Vermont's rural heritage, will feature Traditional Craft Saturdays each Saturday in September from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Visitors are invited to explore a series of Vermont crafts – their history, process, and uses – through informal learning and discovery. A different craft will be featured each week.

Saturday, September 3 – Quilting Through the Ages with Billings Farm & Museum staff. In celebration of the 25th Annual Quilt Exhibition, the staff will demonstrate hand and machine quilting, using the Treadle, Featherweight, and modern quilting sewing machines. Visitors are invited to try hand quilting, piecing, and designing a quilt. View the schedule of activities for September 3.

Saturday, September 10 – Rug Hooking with Carolyn Buttolph from St. Johnsbury, VT. Carolyn will demonstrate rug hooking and share examples of her work. Visitors are invited to try their hand rug hooking.

Saturday, September 17 – Sheep Shear Cuttings – Paper Cuttings in the Polish Style with Carolyn Guest from St. Johnsbury, VT. Carolyn will demonstrate this art form dating from at least the 1800s when farmers' wives used cutting tools and materials at hand to make decorations for their cottages. Carolyn incorporates her own Vermont heritage with traditional Polish folk motifs into her cuttings that will be on display. Visitors may experiment making their own cuttings.

Saturday, September 24 – Cooperage with David Salvetti from Fulton, NY. David will demonstrate the steps and techniques involved in making barrels & buckets. He will display coopering tools and demonstrate various techniques. View the schedule.
